Mixpanel Is Live in Cogny: Product Analytics for Your Agent

Ad spend gets users to sign up. What happens after that — activation, retention, which cohorts stick and which churn — lives in your product analytics tool, not in Google Ads or GA4. Mixpanel is now a live MCP integration in Cogny, joining PostHog and Segment as a third way to bring behavioral data into the same agent conversation as your ad and SEO data.

One read-only Service Account, your project ID, and the agent can query Mixpanel's Query API directly — no export, no CSV, no separate dashboard tab.

    TL;DR

    • Mixpanel is live now. Connect it from your workspace Settings → Cogny Managed MCPs.
    • 8 read-only tools: get_project_info, run_segmentation, list_funnels, get_funnel, get_retention, list_cohorts, run_insights_report, list_profiles. No write tools are registered.
    • Auth is a Service Account (username + secret) sent as HTTP Basic, with your project_id attached to every request automatically — you never pass it yourself.
    • Works with both US (mixpanel.com, default) and EU-residency (eu.mixpanel.com) projects — the API host is configurable per workspace.
    • This wraps Mixpanel's Query API only — not the raw Export API. list_profiles follows Mixpanel's session-based pagination cursor automatically, up to 1,000 profiles (configurable, capped at 50,000) or 20 pages, whichever comes first.
    • HTTP 429 is surfaced as "narrow the date range or retry later" rather than a raw status code — Mixpanel's Query API allows roughly 5 concurrent requests and 60 requests/hour per project.
    • Available on any Cogny plan. The agent pays for its own inference; Cogny handles the proxy and credential storage.

What you can do with it

    ToolWhat Claude can do
get_project_infoConfirm which project_id and API host (US/EU) this connection is pointed at — no network call
run_segmentationCount occurrences of an event over time, optionally split by a property expression
list_funnels + get_funnelList saved funnel definitions, then read conversion results for one over a date range
get_retentionCohort retention — birth (first-time users) or compounded — between two events
list_cohortsRead saved cohort definitions (id and name)
run_insights_reportGet results for a saved Insights report by bookmark ID
list_profilesPage through user profiles (People), optionally filtered by a where expression or a saved cohort

In concrete terms: "How many Purchase events happened per week since August, split by plan?" "What's the 30-day compounded retention on the Signup → Purchase pair?" "Which saved cohort has the highest average order value?" "Pull profiles where last_seen is after Jan 1 and cross-reference them against my ICP." Those answers come straight from Mixpanel's Query API, in the same conversation where the agent checks your ad spend and GA4 traffic.

    How to connect it

    1. In Mixpanel, open Organization Settings → Service Accounts and click Add Service Account.
    2. Name it (e.g. "Cogny") and give it the Consumer (read-only) role. Copy the generated username and secret — the secret is only shown once.
    3. Open Project Settings → Overview for the project you want to connect and copy the Project ID. Note the data residency shown there.
    4. In your Cogny workspace, go to Settings → Cogny Managed MCPs, click Connect on the Mixpanel card, and enter:
      • The Service Account username and secret
      • The Project ID
      • The API host: https://mixpanel.com (US, default) or https://eu.mixpanel.com (EU residency)

The credentials are stored encrypted and sent only as Authorization: Basic … to Mixpanel's Query API, with your project_id attached to every request. The API host is validated — only https:// and only public addresses are accepted — before any call is made. Disconnect at any time.

    On rate limits

Mixpanel's Query API is deliberately conservative: roughly 5 concurrent requests and ~60 requests per hour, per project. This is much tighter than an ad platform's API, so the proxy maps HTTP 429 to a clear message — "Mixpanel rate limit reached, narrow the date range or retry later" — instead of a raw status code, so the agent knows to adjust its query rather than retry blindly.

    On read-only trust

This integration is strictly read-only v1. Every tool carries MCP behavior annotations marking it as non-destructive and idempotent, and the server registers no create_, update_, or delete_ tools — an agent cannot post events, modify cohorts, or touch anything in your Mixpanel project. It also deliberately does not wrap the raw Export API; only the Query API endpoints above are exposed. If write support (or Export API access) turns out to be useful, it will ship as separately named tools behind Cogny's standard approval gate.

Behavioral data next to ad and SEO data, in one agent session, is where growth analysis stops being three browser tabs. Connect Mixpanel from your Cogny dashboard and ask your first question.
